Quick question. "...the chrismation of the newly baptized was frequently explained in mystagogy as entry into the three officia of Christ as prophet, priest, and king...." Would you mind providing a source for this? I was always under the impression that the prophet/priest/king paradigm was modern.
Very insightful essay. I've seen a few people saying Jesus was a crucified slave. Is that just hyperbole? He seemed to be a free man even if subject to the Roman empire.
Though I might dispute one or two minor points in relation to NT studies, I love the overall thrust of this piece. The extended discussion on the category of "messiah" was excellent, and I look forward to further discussion of where the logic of Jesus and the Resurrection takes us.
